Sports Massage

Sports massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue.  Soft tissue is a term used to refer to connective tissue in the body such as skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia.

Sports massage can be beneficial to anyone who is engaged in regular physical activity, regardless of age, level of fitness or level of competition.  And not just athletes, but anyone who is involved in regular physical activity as part of their daily routine.

Sports massage promotes physical, physiological, neurological and psychological changes within the body.  Some of these benefits include:

The release of muscle tension and pain

The removal of waste products

Improved posture and flexibility

Prevent injuries and loss of mobility

Break down scar tissue

Reduce anxiety

Increase blood and lymphatic flow

Aid recovery following exercise

Reduce the discomfort of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) following exercise

Increase feelings of alertness and well-being

At Back on Track we use the traditional techniques of massge including Effleurage, Petrissage and Tapotment amongst more specialised techniques such as Muscle Energy Technique, Soft Tissue Release, Neuromuscular Technique and Trigger Point Therapy.
